This panoramic is a reproduction of a 17th century Flemish tapestry hanging on the walls of the Champs-sur-Marne château (near Paris). Dated from the 17th century, it adorns one of the corridors of the château and was installed by Louis Cahen d'Anvers, a wealthy banker who became owner of the château in 1895. This is a typical tapestry with trees, riders and numerous animals (dog, deer, wolf, birds, horses...).
The reproduction of this tapestry required a photoshoot at the Champs-sur-Marne château in order to photograph all parts of this tapestry in perfect definition. We then carried out a lengthy digital restoration to revive its colors and the sharpness of its patterns. To evoke the tapestry's grain and woven aspect, we chose to print it on a wallpaper made of natural sisal fibers with a raw and textured appearance.

Dated from the 17th century, this tapestry was made by a workshop in Flanders, region specialized in the art of tapestry at that time. In the Middle Ages, tapestry used for covering the walls of castles was huge and required large looms and a lot of labor. The manufactures capable of investing in these material and human resources then appeared in prosperous textile cities. Around 1500, Flanders (the Flemish part of present-day Belgium) became the main place for their production (along with northern France). Thus, until the 17th century, the most renowned manufacturers were located in Flanders, in Bruges and Brussels in particular.
1600-1699
The Champs-sur-Marne château from which this tapestry comes was home to famous guests. The château was notably inhabited and rented by the Marquise de Pompadour (1757-1759) and received visits from the philosophers Voltaire, d'Alembert and Diderot and, later, that of the French writer Marcel Proust. It was finally the location of many films and series such as Dangerous Liaisons, Jefferson in Paris, Colonel Chabert, The count of Monte Cristo, The children of the century, Vatel, Marie-Antoinette ...
Dated from the beginning of the 18th century, this tapestry, a reproduction of which we offer, is located in one of the corridors on the first floor of the Champs-sur-Marne château. This corridor is made up of a patchwork of 7 tapestries (including this one) representing typical “vgreenery” subjects such as a forest, flowers and foliage, birds, mountains, a river... but also a hunting scene, architectural elements... As was customary, some were cut out to be adapted to their new location. It is originally woven from wool and silk threads.
