DESCRIPTION

Created in 1875 by Manufacturer Desfossé & Karth, this decorative wallpaper displays blooming branches and multicolored birds. Originally, it was printed in more than 20 colors on engraved woodblocks, on paper rolls bound together, whose background was previously hand brushed.

To revive this lovely wallpaper and bring it up to date, our workshop carried out a meticulous digital restoration.

Founded in 1851, the Manufacture Jules Desfossé is one of the most important in France and Europe. In 1853, after Jules Desfossé had joined with Hippolyte Karth, the Manufacture was named Desfossé and Karth. It distinguishes itself by a purchase policy of printing woodblocks and a close collaboration with the artists of the time. Firmly rooted in the Second Empire, and considered the best, this Manufacture offers wall papers with themes in the taste of time, though sometimes nearly decadent.

Interesting facts
Interesting facts

The 18th and 19th centuries showed great taste for animal designs on wallpapers. All kinds of animals get generally depicted, from domestic animals, such as dogs, sheep, goats, horses, cows, through farmyard animals, such as cocks, hens, chicks, to wild animals, such as stags, ducks or, – as displayed on this Spring wallpaper - birds and insects.

Because of the many details involved and the numerous colors needed, wallpapers with birds and insects used to be top-of-the-range.
