Passionate about art and beautiful objects in general, the Grand Siècle experts have selected a range of wallpapers with Chinese motifs inspired by century-old artworks. For example, the model called Camelia terracotta comes from a wallpaper made by hand between 1795 and 1825, the original of which is currently kept at the Cooper Hewitt Museum in New York. Available in a cream version, the Camelia design is distinguished by the finesse of its illustrations, typical of Chinese wallpaper, which represent birds, insects and, above all, splendid camellias in pink, red, burgundy or green tones. This decor fits perfectly into a living room or bedroom, the light background enlarging the volumes and illuminating the room.

For an atmosphere as warm as it is refined, we also offer the Magnolia Chinese pattern mural. This Chinese-inspired wallpaper features magnolia flowers as well as birds on branches, like the patterns popular in the 18th century. Initially painted by hand between 1775 and 1799, this model proves to be all the more precious as it underwent a long and delicate digital restoration process. Subsequently, our team created two color variations of this fine wallpaper: a celadon green quite close to the original and a very soft pinkish beige.

Le Grand Siècle, patterns steeped in history and Made In France

Vanessa Hahusseau created Le Grand Siècle following a revelation in front of the wallpaper Le Jardin d'Armide, a 19th century panoramic illustrating lush vegetation and exhibited at the Musée d’Orsay in 2016. This attraction to beautiful things, the preservation of heritage and the promotion of French know-how are an integral part of the brand’s DNA.

Through the high-end wallpapers that we offer, we wish above all to promote French know-how and highlight original models, reflecting the golden age of Decorative Arts. The patterns are selected according to strict criteria: they must present a form of modernity, be in tune with the times through graphics, tones and timeless universes, in particular green and blue tones, lush foliage, animals…

Once the pattern has been chosen, it is time for its digital reproduction. This process allows us to restore the image in great detail before printing it. For this last step, we work with a French printing workshop, demanding and involved, who has produced tailor-made prints for Le Grand Siècle since its creation. Each wallpaper strip is rolled by hand before being carefully packed and sent. This choice guarantees high quality wallpapers, from their original creation to their new life with our customers.
